War on Want and London Mining Network public meeting
Thursday 22 April, 7 - 9pm Speakers Alpheus Blom, former gold miner, South Africa Richard Meeran, Leigh Day and Co Solicitors Ruth Tanner, War on Want Richard Solly, London Mining Network (Chair) British mining company Anglo American is the world's fourth largest mining company and nets billions in profits every year. But Anglo American is profiting from a pattern of abuse at the expense of poor people across the world. This meeting will hear from a former Anglo American South Africa worker who is taking the company to court over the legacy of silicosis, a life-threatening lung disease, among gold miners in South Africa. It will also be an opportunity to hear how Anglo-American damages local communities around the world from Colombia to the Philippines and find out what you can do to stop this company fuelling more conflict situations and human rights abuses. |
